What made me write All the Families? A two-minute story!

Hi, it’s great to meet you

I’m a writer, grandmother, research analyst, licensed professional counselor, and faculty member at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family. Before turning to counseling, I was a public health professional, focusing on community health planning at local and state levels, and using Healthy People in my work at a national level. My most important learning, though, probably came from the two years I worked in a local health department’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic. I also did stints, years ago, as a community college professor and as a religious education director. Now, with a PhD from the Pastoral Counseling Department of Loyola University, Maryland, I aim to be a thoughtful presence, offering new perspectives with a wry sense of humor. My husband and I live in Washington, DC, where we are avid Nationals baseball fans, hoping for a miracle.

In February 2024, I was the featured speaker at the Thursday night professional lecture of the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family, talking about “Writing and Defining a Self” and the work of Dorothy Sayers. The lecture is available on YouTube
